Wildcards-Gusto exchange

Hi all! I believe everyone who have attended yesterday's wildcards-gusto exchange would have learned something or two!
It was an enriching experience being able to stunt and gain useful pointers from the experienced wildcards cheerleaders wasn't it? :)
I do hope you guys will remember those pointers that were taught yesterday and improve yourself during training!

However, one important thing for all to note of is safety issues while stunting!
Besides being enthusiastic during training, we must not forget to spot properly for our team mates!
I am sure anyone of you wouldn't want to see your team mates suffer from injuries while stunting right?
Well, actually we can prevent this from happening if all of us do our part to spot and be EXTRA alert whenever anyone is up on the stunt!
I believe one of the most useful skills Chaang has taught us yesterday was the fourth man cradling.
I really hope everyone would apply it in future training especially when doing basket tosses!

Anyway, a big thank you to the Wildcards team and coaches for their time to make this exchange a fruitful and successful one! ;)
I am sure all of us had fun and gained more knowledge during the exchange.
Let's all work harder and look forward to the next exchange with the Wildcards team!

Hi Gusto! ^^ This is a reminder that the training camp is on this Friday (7/10) to Sunday (9/10)!
Here are some of the things you all have to take note of:

1) Report punctually for ALL days. For Friday, the venue would be at T11A. As for Saturday and Sunday, the venue would be at Polycentre! Be properly attired and get ready on the mats by 9am SHARP for ALL days!

2) Do remember to cut your nails and remove all accessories before coming for the camp! (Note: Only ear sticks are allowed! )

3) For those who have not handed up the indemnity forms, please bring it on Friday!

Do help to spread the message around and make sure everyone is aware of the details!
Lastly, do get enough rest and see you guys on Friday! ;)

Hi Gusto!

Vincent invited me and some of our team members to your training last Thursday, and I must say that I was very impressed with your turnout! I literally counted more than 50 ppl! Very impressive turnout indeed!

Wildcards will continue to support SP Gusto this Season. I wish to assure all of you that our members and coaches are experienced and qualified individuals who will aid you in bringing out the best cheerleader in you with the most effective methods possible.

Gusto will be able to experience the winning partnership of Vincent and myself - We were two of the pioneer coaches for Wildcards when the team first started in 2008. We were the best newcomer team in 2009, and National Champions for 2010 & 2011. We were also Champions for SKM 2009 (the only year WC took part in SKM).

In the history of cheerleading in Singapore, no other open category social team has ever matched our track record. We have a tested and proven management/coaching system that promises to bring out the best of each and everyone of you.

So how's training so far? Still enjoyable? Haha hope you guys learnt new stunts and techniques for the past 2 trainings :)

Here's some update about the trial training on Thurs. Some girls, and even guys manage to do a elevator extension with the seniors. Well done! Of course the junior bases also did a great job in going up to elevator from thigh stand! And well done girls who trust their bases who are going to catch them during the trust fall! ;) But please don't scream next time when you stunt alright! Always have trust in your base, they'll catch you if you're gonna fall!

Not only stunting, we had a mini friendly competition among the girls and guys! We had the SUSHI GAME! So all you do is to lock and the people below are to use their strength to get you over to the other end! It was a fun game game as everybody was so high and can hear people shouting every moment! Hahaha and guess what, the girls won!! Great job! I guess the guys gotta buck up on their locking yeah? Guys, nice one too!

So now we're gonna have a week break from training due to MST. All the best to those students who are taking their tests soon! Training will resume during the holidays, do check back again for the training details! :)

Trial trainings 2011

Hello all freshies!!! As there's a big group of you who are interested to join Gusto, we've divided you guys into two groups for the training this week on Tues and Thurs respectively. So by now you all should have already received the call/sms from us telling you the details of the trainings. For those who we failed to contact due to some problem, you can still join us for training! Fret not, we'll be teaching the same stuff for both trainings!

Do take note that this week training will be just a trial session for you freshies, to let you know more about what cheerleading is all about! You don't have to worry much cos it's gonna be fun! :)

Date: 3rd May (Tues) or 5th May (Thurs)

Time: 6pm-10pm

Venue: T11A

Attire: Sports attire with shoes

Do take not you are not allowed to wear sleeveless top for trainings and please cut your nails due to safety reasons! We don't want to leave any scars on others.
For girls please tie up your hair and no accessories are allowed during training. Do remember to wear tights (safety shorts) inside so you're able to stunt without any worries! ;)

For those who had sign up for the camp please rmb to hand in your indemnity form during your respective trainings as well! For those who sign up for the camp but are not coming for the trainings please rmb to bring the form on the actual camp itself!

A new legacy

Hello to all Gusto fans and readers! As you guys know, Gusto took part in 2nd SNCC 2011 on the 19th and 20th March 2011 at the Jurong Sports Stadium! For those who were not present on the actual day, fret not, you still can enjoy videos, photos and even news about GUSTO over here! ;)

For those who still don't know, Gusto's Pocket Ace (Group Stunt Mixed), and Gusto (High School Team Competitive) was crowned Champions at the 2nd SNCC 2011! Not only that, Gusto was crowned as the Overall Champions as well! Good job Gusto!!! ^^

All of us fight hard to get what we want. We trained everyday when competition is nearing. Even though some of us are having attachment, yet we have to rush down to school for training after our work. Those days were tough with sweat, injuries, tears and even disagreements. We were demoralised, all of us were so drained of the end of the day. Stunts keep falling and we only managed to hit an ASU routine once just the day before the competition. But we know we have each other no matter what's the results going to be. The process is way important than the results. All those people we've trained so hard together with, are not only our team mates, but also our friends. Mind over body! We'll never forget this feeling and what we've gone through. But all that had happened are all worth it now! We created a new legacy for Gusto, good job! Most importantly we enjoyed our routine!!! ^^

Of course, Gusto won't be able to come so far without our coaches, other cheerleading teams, our supporters and not forgetting the school for providing us the resources! Thank you all, Gusto really appreciate what you've done for us :)

Hi fellow leaders-in-the-making,

I bet this training camp was a whole new experience for all of you. Please don't be discouraged by all the bad comments we've said to you all, treat that as a drive to improve yourselves. Do remain confident! Confidence is very essential in life, be it during cheer, your school presentations or even job interviews. And confidence comes with experience, the more you speak up in front of a group of people, the more confident you get. Not that we do not want to use the soft approach, but certain things cannot be learnt other than experiencing yourself.

There will be no leader if there is no followers. So in this camp, we gave everyone a chance to lead and follow. Aside from being a good leader, you guys will also have to know how to be a good follower, and give the fullest support to the one that is in-charge.

A very good job to both teams that picked up the routine in a short five hours. Hope you guys roughly have a feel of how being in a routine feels like. There is still room for LOTS of improvement though!

Apart from cultivating you guys to become leaders, this training camp was also suppose to be for you guys to up your skills level. New stunts were taught to y'all, but the target standard set by coach to achieve at the end of the camp was not met. For your information, your progress as compared to the other teams is considered slow, we need you guys to work extra hard to catch up! From every stunt that you do, you have to learn how to avoid getting injured and keep the flyer safe at the same time. It sucks to get injured.

Learn to listen, learn to accept, learn to control your temper.

Hi all, how are you feeling after your exams?! Haha I know most of you are already done and over with your exams. Those who are having their last paper tomorrow don't give up! ;)

I know alot of you missed trainings awww. It's been so long since our last training as all of us mugged hard for our papers. But there's training tomorrow!!!

Do estimate yourself of how many sets of clothes you need to bring. If you know you tend to sweat alot, please bring extra sets of training attires!
Do rest well tonight as it will only get more tiring and tougher as we train. Have plently of water, you won't wanna fall sick!

Ignoring the #1 rule of cheerleaders - 'no performing under the rain!' , we still had to cheer on the crowd, as well as the torch bearers! So in the end all of us had to wear ponchos and cheer the crowd. Despite the bad weather and last minute changes, we had done a great job! Hope nobody fell sick though!

The seniors had also staged a performance. And once again it was an ALL STUNTS UP ROUTINE! :D Naiiise!! I know that there're certain stunts that you juniors want to achieve, so train hard and work towards it alright! ;)

Yeap and juniors also had their own event. The SAMSUNG event! Good job in rahrah-ing the crowd! Good to hear that you all are having fun and good to see that you guys are actually bonding well! Do behave yourselves when seniors are not around alright, you guys are no longer secondary school kids haha!

Just a reminder, this week's training will only be on 13th August (Fri), 6pm-9.30pm at T11A for juniors. Gymnastic lessons will carry on as usual on Wednesday!
Seniors training will be as usual on Saturday, 9.30am-3pm at T11A.

Things you need to know.

Greetings Gusto, thousands apologizes for the lack of updates recently. Was really very very very very busy bzzzz!

First of all, good job to those who had passed the test! Remember, these tests do not determine your future in Gusto, but to let you know where you stand amongst your batch currently. For those who had passed the test, do not be complacent. Continue to work hard, never stop improving! For those who were unfortunate to fail the test, reflect on yourselves, do you train as hard as the rest? Do you gym often? Do you stretch frequently?
Maybe you all did, but the main point is to push yourselves out of your comfort zone, so that you all can improve and have more confidence in yourselves.

Guys, I know you all are already sick of hearing us telling you all to gym more. If you guys can’t even tank your own weight, how can you guys tank a flyer on the stunt? Strength is a bonus. With strength, you guys will learn the technique faster and easier. If you guys don’t have the time to hit the gym, at least you all can do self conditioning at home, 3-5 sets of 20pushups, 20situps, and 1 minute of handstand at home. All these will definitely help you in your physical strength.

For girls, we all know that flexibility is not something that we can achieve over a night’s time. The stretching that we do in training are definitely not enough, everyone definitely need to have self discipline to stretch at home, every day. 15mins of stretching everyday is enough for you to see results in 2 weeks time!
P.s. Flexibility is also a bonus for guys

Comparison is human nature, comparing yourselves and to your teammates is to treat it as a motivation instead of lowering your self-esteem. Friendly competition in the squad definitely will raise the standard of team.

We all also know that different people progress and learn new stuff at different speed, but as long as we have the right attitude to learn, nothing is impossible. Let’s all work hard together towards our goals.

Always remember this,

“Treat failures as stepping stones in life, a step towards perfection, a step
towards success, a step that nobody can or should skip."

You guys are already halfway there, don’t give up just because of certain setbacks. Giving up on yourself is like giving up on your teammates and everyone else around you. A true champion never quits.

Lastly, I will talk about target setting. Target setting is important in cheerleading; for example, to pull a scorpion by end of the month, to do a test height with a flick off, standing backtuck/backhandspring by the end of the month. All these are realistic targets, if you work hard towards it. Once you had achieved your goals, you will definitely feel the sense of satisfaction, the joy of not giving up when you’re halfway there.

Having said so much, actions speak louder than words! You all should know what you're supposed to do right! (:

As you were informed of earlier during the last training, the Seniors will be staging a cheerleading performance at the International Water Festival at Marina Barrage, this coming Sunday, 27th June 2010. We're more than happy to welcome your support for us at the event on that very day.

Hi all, enjoying your holiday? Sadly, it's only two weeks. But I bet you'll enjoy it more with cheerleading trainings right. Here's the training schedule!

Speaking about safety, it's good that you juniors are willing and interested in learning higher level of stunts. But, do not try stunts that we have not taught you on your own or even with your team mates around to spot. Most importantly you don't wish to learn the wrong technique, and moreover, you are not allowed to do any stunts without seniors or coaches supervision. It's about safety. I hope you guys understand!

And for those who intend to join the Taiwan Cheerleader Workshop on 27th June as mentioned, please remember to bring $20 on the next training!

Cheerleading workshop by Taiwan Cheerleaders

MST period is here, I bet most of you are stressed over memorising informations for your modules right! Then at times you'll be pissed off with yourself, because somehow you don't get what the modules are trying to say. Oh well, don't get too stressed over it, when you're too stressed over it you won't be able to process it well and you might get more confused instead! So at times you should take a break from studies and do some conditioning! Eg. Handstand, pumpings, stretching etc.

I know most of you don't really access to Gusto blog, but if you do, please do notify your team mates to check Gusto blog regularly for any updates alright! Training schedule will be updated here again! I know some of you are missing trainings already, well, I'm not sure if you all miss the physical training though! Haha. We're gonna have trainings soon!! So do check back for trainings schedule during the holiday and let us know if you're unable to attend any training. Plus, do inform us if you’re going overseas and all.

And for the following event, do spread around to Gusto people! We've already mentioned to you guys during last training's debrief! There will be a workshop held by Taiwan professional cheerleader.

Tough times

Greeting Heroes!

There's like 4000 photos from camp! I need time to sort it out so I'll update more about the camp next time! Now you know how Gusto likes to take pictures! Still, good job heroes! :)

I know this week is tough for all of you and all your muscles are aching. Heroes, do endure alright!! All the PT is there to make you stronger, so when we ask you to do it, please do it properly. If not, no matter how many you do, it will not help. It's the quality that matters, not quantity! Jiayou Gusto!

Plus, do listen to instructions during training. As you all know, we've already combined the Tuesday and Thursday batch together. We’re being strict because there’re so many of you and once things get messy, it'll get out of control. You won't want to keep doing punishment as well right? Do everything fast and listen to instructions, so we'll have more time to teach you all new stunts effectively and efficiently! :D

Do rest well this weekend, drink lots of water and eat healthily! Gotta get all prepared for next few weeks of trainings, the tough times are here! But we'll all endure it through together, seniors and juniors alike. Do encourage each other along the way too alright?

Guys, do hit the gym to improve faster, you need the strength. Girls included, do hit the gym as well, and not forgetting do stretch at home. Flexibility is imperative in cheerleading!

Hi all freshies! Hope you guys had enjoyed your very first training session! Remember, it's just a beginning of everything, do attend more training session so that you will improve yourself, pushing yourselves to your limit! Do attend training regularly as you will be learning new stuff every training :)

Trainings will be on every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 9.30pm at T11A.
However, there will only be training on this following Tuesday (11th may). The camp will be held on Friday to Sunday (14th - 16th may), thus, we had cancelled our Thursday (13th may) training for you guys to have plenty of rest, recharged and ready for the camp! :D
For those who have yet to sign up for the camp, do not hesitate to sign up now! The camp fee will be $15, so please do bring sufficient money for the next training.

And also, girls do remember to wear your tights (safety shorts) for every training. You would not want to miss the opportunity to stunt just because you did not wear your tights!

Nonetheless, Gusto still welcomes anybody who are interested to join! If you have any friends who are interested in cheerleading, do feel free to ask them pop by our next training session! :D

Due to the overwhemling response, we'd decided to split you guys into two batch; one batch on Tuesday, one batch on Thursday. Fret not, we will be teaching the same things for both trainings.

We'll be notifying you through phone calls, whether you are suppose to report on Tuesday or Thursday trial trainings. No harm coming down and try out some of the stunts! It'll be an unique experience! :)

CCA Showcase 2010

Hi all freshies, guess you all at least had an idea what cheerleading is about during your orientation! Hope you all got a bigger picture of what cheerleading is after you seen our performances!

Basically, cheerleading is not just about cheering, but in fact it includes stunting, tumbling and even jumps! SP Gusto will be performing for many school events, and of course in competitons as well!

Our training will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 6-9.30pm every week and the occasional Saturdays.

Do check us out this coming CCA showcase on 28th-30th April, from 11am-5pm! Our booth will be the area near FC5 or sports hall.
We'll be having a showcase on 30th April, 2-2.30pm at sports hall beside FC5.
Do feel free to drop by and take a look at our showcase and you might get a chance to fly!
Do drop by our booth and approach us if you have any enquires about SP Gusto Cheerleading too!

If you're interested in Gusto Cheerleading, we'll be having a freshmen orientation camp on 14th-16th May.

Principal's Message With Regards to Swine Flu

Dear Students

 You must have read in news that the swine flu outbreak is becoming more
 serious around the world.

 All of you should still have memories of your school days when measures
 had to be taken when there was a SARS outbreak.  Singapore has no
 reported cases of swine flu so far, but we must all remain vigilant and
 be socially responsible to prevent the spread of the virus.

 It is important that you do your part to avoid infection. Take simple
 steps like avoiding crowded places, washing your hands frequently with
 soap and water, and consulting a doctor immediately if you feel sick or
 feverish.

 Some of you reading this email may be overseas for immersion programmes
 or other purposes.  If you are overseas, you must take the same
 precautions to avoid infection.  You should also keep your lecturer or
 personal tutor informed of your whereabouts.

 Singapore’s Ministry of Health provides regular updates via its website.
 You are encouraged to refer to www.moh.gov.sg. for more in-depth health
 updates.  SP will also provide regular updates as and when necessary,
 via:

 -  Personal email to you (for example, if the situation worsens and
 campus access has to be restricted, you will be advised what to do).
 -  Blackboard.
 -  SP website (www.sp.edu.sg).

 We will monitor the situation and advise you should we need to introduce
 other preventive measures later on.  These may include restricted access
 to our campus, temperature monitoring and imposing travel restrictions.
 If and when this has to be implemented, we will inform you.

 In the meantime, please do the following immediately:

 §  Update your handphone number and personal information in SAS, if
 necessary.
 §  Carry your student card at all times. You may be required to produce
 this should the pandemic risk level go up and access to campus become
 restricted.

 We should not be complacent just because there are no cases in
 Singapore.  The virus can spread very quickly.  But we do not also want
 to be paranoid.  The most important step we can do to stop the spread is
 to maintain high standards of personal hygiene and remain vigilant.
 Read the news to keep yourself updated on the situation around the world
 and in Singapore.

 Let's keep Singapore and SP flu-free !

I know this is extremely impromptu, but there's a Performance that Gusto has accepted on the 26 October (Sunday). This Performance is for the People's Association and they have catered for at least 10 people to perform. We'll be paid for this Performance, and how much it'll be, wil be disclosed during Monday's Training.

Guys: Not to worry I've settled your sizes by taking your original US Shoe Sizes for Men (the size you've smsed me just today - 16/08/08 ) and adding 1½ size bigger.

E.g If your US Shoe Size (Men) is 9.5, then in ladies measurements US Shoes Size(Ladies) you would be 11.

Ladies: There should not be any mistake in measurements unless you've given me the wrong size (be it you give me in US shoe size or in CM).

Raymond has found out that TP Blazers, Steppers and Wild Cards will be ordering their cheerleading shoes from Kaepa this coming Wednesday(10/09/2008). Those teams will be ordering in bulk together, hence it'll be priced below SDG$100. It's a good catch and hence would like all of you to confirm your orders as soon as possible by this coming Tuesday (09/09/2008) if you guys want it, since we have already your shoes sizes in hand. hopefully the exams during the 2 weeks break was manageable for everyone of you.

Dear fellow Gusto-ians,

Good day all! It's the lst of September 2008, and I hope you guys are doing fabbity-fab still eversince we last had our training before the torturous and ever dreadful examinations. Give yourself a pat on the shoulder for you have strived through those sleepless night burning the midnight oil and not to forget those annoying eye bags due to exams. But fret not, examinations are so going to be YESTERDAY, for now. Three cheers for us for the holidays are here, and that cheerleading trainings are back! I'm sure everyone's really exicited and cant wait for Gusto trainings to resume :D

As you would already have noticed by now, Gusto has now a new blogskin! I would like to introduce this new season's blogskin, which features Gusto as 'Champions who lifts Champions'. I believe everyone cant agree more to the latter. It epitomizes who we really are, as Gustos (both the guys and girls) who're worthy as Champions, and that we'll carry that spirit with us as a Team. That aside, I'll like to thank Nydia for helping me out with the new c-box, the blog's music and many other nitty gritty that made this whole layout possible. I hope that everyone will like this new skin and will fully utilise this whole new layout for informations on Gusto's happenings.

Now as Gusto embarks on a new month, yes, the month of September (where most seniors would step down), I would love to, on behalf of the newly appointed leaders and fellow junior Gusto-ians express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the guidance from our seniors. In those dark and uncertain hours, you stuck by us, illuminating our hearts and mind. I am pretty sure that even as we age and our minds grow old as Methuselahand, these fond memories will never depart our failing minds.

It is indeed as known by all, "With great power comes great responsibility". Hence as the newly appointed committee, we would bring Gusto to greater heights and not let you (our seniors) down. For Gusto as a Squad, we would work even harder, challenge our limits and higher our standards. For the saying goes, "Together Everyone Achieves More". We'll always strive on and advance as a TEAM.

Hey Ho Gustos,

Here's what you've all been wanting to know; When will training resume? I've contacted Damien and here's the following information below you'd love to know:

Date: 4th Spetember 2008
Day: Thursday
Time: 6pm-10pm
Venue: SP Auditorium/To be Confirmed*

Anyway, please please please tag on gusto's blog on wheather you'll be make it to attend training or not. Be it attending or not, it's only polite and responsible to inform us at Gusto's blog or call/sms Vanny. Damien needs to know of the attendence and it's not nice to make him come all the way to coach us knowing only a few of us could make it :D

I would be away from Tonight(1st Sept) till Saturday(6th Sept), so please please please do contact Vanny, Tinglei or Nydia if anything!

this is to inform you that we're going to have an upcoming chalet!
here are the details in case you aren't aware of it:

date: 2nd - 4th sept
venue: aloha loyang @ pasir ris

the amount to pay per person (for the stay only) is 25 bucks,
and tinglei will be at the clubhouse to collect payment this coming monday, 25th!
she'll be there from 10 am onwards till about 5 or 6pm.
do bring the exact amount along so it'll be easier for her (:
you are expected to come cos we've counted everyone in!

while we were walking from marina square to singapore flyer where we settle down before performance, CC was stopped by this 2 policemen! why?! they wanted to test if the security was efficient, cause we had to walked through chech points, just like at the airport. so he was asked to switch his bag, and in it contained a KNIFE! looked more like a chopper when they scan his bag. lol. they gave him some alram cum light as souvenir. hahahaaa. maany heard about it and stayed to watch what happened!

training on MONDAY(04/08/08) that is tomorrow,
will be held at SP PLAZA.
(in front of the convention centre, near Dover MRT)
its gonna be an open air venue.
sooooo..
WET WEATHER PLANS,
if you see dark clouds at 6,
or drizzles, etc.
training will be held at SPORTS HALL.
and if so,
kindly make a trip back to club house,
to help carry the mats over!

HEY THERE!
since no one blogged abt thursday's training,
i shall take the initiative to do so now hahahah.
okay yeah training started with the usual warm-ups
and we did jumping jacks, stretching, push-ups, push-ups and more push-ups!
along with some cool music and cool air coming out from the auditorium HAHAHHAH.
yup then some of us did toss to hand, and some did chair.
and we did tumbling! front and back roll
(i don't know the exact name but you get what i mean),
cartwheels, round-offs, handstands.
that's all i think. can't really remember HAHA sorry! :X
oh oh and then weipin's tower played some chinese game during a small break!
don't know what fried rice its called HAHAHAH.
then before training ended,
terri, yiyu, gen and joshua performed a short dance they learnt from the taiwan trip!
OH it was super lively and cute!
so much so that we all got them to do it once more!
i think they shot a video of them but i don't have the clip
so someone please load it somewhere and we shall put it up here! :D
anyway yeah for debrief,
damien suggested for us to go for a 3D2N chalet at aloha loyang
located somewhere near downtown east!
and there were no strong objections except from weipin so we decided to go along with the idea
and damien went on to book the place!
how efficient! HAHAHAHHAH.
so the rates are like 20 plus bucks for just the stay(for 20 odd ppl),
not including food n recreation. (:
and i think we're gonna have bbq on one of the nights :D
the date is from 2nd to 4th of sept so please make yourselves available!
and then yiyu our vice-captain gave us a deadline to learn our round-offs, toe touches and cartwheels!
we have to perfect it by end of august!
and to help us, vanny will post up a timetable on the clubhouse door on the timings the clubhouse will be open so we can go and drag some mats out and train on our handstands, cartwheels, round-offs and toe touches.
so people, please please please go visit the clubhouse more often and brush up on them!
and vanny gave us a debrief too,
we'll have exactly 4 trainings left till we break for exams
so we girls will have to stretch whenever we can
or our flexibility will get rusty when we're back from the exams! :O
yes i guess that's all for training!

went to the kopitiam located near clementi mrt station after training for supper!
ordered alot alot of food! (:
so yeah this shows that we cheerleaders are not ANOREXIC, neither are we BULIMIC!
we don't diet cos we're healthy people okay! :D :D :D
and we love food just like normal people do.
just that we exercise so we don't get fat AHAHAHAHAH. :P

cos the train was moving quite fast and it didn't stop!
